Women's History Month

Since 1987 Women's History Month has been famous each March. It is a time to remember and to celebrate the many ways women have made their mark on the world. There are many ways to celebrate, but enjoying a film is one of the more fun options. These films, some based on true events and some fictional, all tell the story of a strong woman or group of women. Some simply made personal gains, and others used their compel to change the lives of many women.

1. Enough

Gas Electricity

The main character in this film shows her compel after being abused and, later, hunted down by her husband. Tired of fearing for her own life and her daughter's life, the main character, Slim, decides to send her daughter off to safety, get training, and fight back against her abusive husband. Although the abuse in this film is sad and, unfortunately, occurs too oftentimes in real life; the compel the main character shows in this film is inspiring.

2. Erin Brockovich

This film is based on the true of story of Erin Brockovich, a woman with no formal legal education, who plays a pivotal role in taking on Pacific Gas and Electric company in a legal case intriguing contaminated drinking water. The case involves a cover up by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, that Brockovich uncovers while working as a legal clerk. She is convinced there is something being hidden, perseveres, and ends up manufacture a discrepancy in the lives of the many plaintiffs involved in this case.

3. A League of Their Own

A League of Their Own is the story of young women playing baseball in the All-American Girls expert Baseball League. Although the story is fictional, the league was real. In the film, the women struggle to be taken seriously as baseball players, and try to reconcile a coarse qoute women have faced and still struggle with; chasing their dreams and honoring obligations to family.

4. The Miracle Worker

The Miracle employee is the story of Helen Keller's teacher, Annie Sullivan, and how she was able to break straight through to the young girl who had no language skills. Helen Keller was left deaf and blind after an illness when she was just a toddler. Annie Sullivan was relentless in her efforts and was able to open the door to transportation for Keller, allowing her to lead a very prosperous life.

5. Amelia

Amelia is based on the famous story of Amelia Earhart. Earhart was the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic ocean solo. Her story is an intriguing one, not just because of this and the many other records she set, but because of the long-lasting marks she left on the world, and women's history specifically. Her accomplishments contain writing books about her flying experiences, helping to form an organizations for female pilots and supporting the Equal proprietary Amendment.
